Honoring the Earth

350 Earth, New Delhi, India. (photo credit: D Dancer / artforthesky.com)

Today I dedicate the daily post in Made In Slant to our Earth for Thanksgiving day.

Art has always been a major source of inspiration to social movements around the world. The above image features 3,000 Ryan International School (Rohini) children with artist Daniel Dancer in New Delhi, India.  Two day ago, on Nov 23, 2010, they formed the image of an elephant to remind our leaders that we can’t afford to ignore climate change – the “elephant in the room”.

The “elephant in the room” project was part of the first ever Global Art Project Visible From Space in which giant living art related to climate change was conducted in 18 locations world wide in conjunction with the Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico.  Dancer produced this image in conjunction with 350.org, a non-profit international campaign seeking to build a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis. 350.org is actively seeking artists, and others, to contribute to their mission.
