Anyone planning a trip to visit Graz, Austria, should bring their running shoes. Austrian architects Sandra Janser and Elisabeth Koller have painted the streets in Graz to resemble a running track as part of a neighborhood regeneration project. The red strip runs for nearly 1/2 mile (or 750 meters) and covers the road and pavements, with grey lines dividing it into lanes.
This project called “Ready. Steady. Go!” won the first prize in the design competition, Design Month Graz 2010, for the installation of a visual frame in the Jakomini district. The purpose of this visual frame was to define the Jakoministraße and Klosterwiesgasse streets as a significant design district, as well as to attract visitors.

Cool idea!
I wonder if people walk faster on these streets…
an above average idea. Surprised it won their design contest. Maybe Graz does not have many designers?
