Tokyo’s Japan Fashion Week is well-known for setting the pace with avant-garde and technophilic fashions. Last week, the fashion company Anrealage, which just debuted at this year’s Japan Fashion Week, continued the tradition of the techno-eccentric when it revealed its fall/winter 2011/2012 collection. The collection featured designer Kunihiko Morinaga presenting the theme of an 8-bit pixel-patterned interpretation of “pixelated” fashions.
The collection included pixelated garments (suits, coats, dresses) as well as pixelated accessories (glasses, shoes, tights). From afar, the clothing appear colorful with the diverse influences of Vivienne Westwood and Super Mario apparent. However at a closer distance, the unusual block-like patterns become evident, and are stunning as well as startling to behold.
