Bay Area artist Adam Caldwell and UK artist Jonathan Darby are currently featured in a dual exhibition at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. ‘Intersection’ presents investigations into two cultures: contemporary American life (by Caldwell) and the Brazil’s favela (slum) communities (by Darby). Both environments are probed through the portraits of its inhabitants and their surroundings. Although contemporary American life has seemingly little in common with life in Brazil’s favela, the juxtaposition of Caldwell’s and Darby’s paintings reminds us how humanity stretches beyond the trappings of modern life.
Intersection runs through July 2, 2011 at White Walls in San Francisco.
