“Brutal Knitting” sci-fi inspired monster masks by artist Tracy Widdess

I love the “it’s not your Grandma’s knitting” movement. Not that your Grandma’s knitting isn’t lovely, but those of you who read “Made In Slant” regularly know that knitting is also a versatile artistic medium which can be used in sculpture, mixed-media and even street art.

Just look at British Columbia based artist Tracy Widdess‘ hand knit sci-fi inspired monster masks. These masks can be mounted on the turret of a medieval castle, worn to intergalactical battles, or don by fashion models on a runway. This summer (July 7 to September 5, 2012) Widdess will be showing her work in “Brutal Knitting” for viewing at the Knit Culture Studio in Los Angeles. To see more, check out the Brutal Knitting Tumblr blog. Delightful!
