“Oosterplas – reflection” 2012, Fuji Crystal Archive, Plexiglass, Reynobond, Edition of 20 + 2 AP, 39 ¼ x 36 inches
Dutch artist Ellen Kooi is currently exhibiting her work at the Catherine Clark Gallery in San Francisco. Kooi creates large-scale panoramic photographs which blur the divisions between reality and fantasy. Using young women and children, Kooi carefully places and positions her subjects in the picturesque Dutch landscape which serves not only as a backdrop but also as an extension, reflection, or even antagonist to the subject’s inner psyche. The photographs have a unique “hard-to-put-a-finger-on” quality which evokes an unsettling yet poetic state.
The photography of Ellen Kooi will be at the Catherine Clark Gallery through July 14, 2012.
