Photos from the Underground New York Public Library

“Rabbit, Run”, by John Updike

Riding the San Francisco subway (or BART, as it is known to those in the Bay Area), I usually count more people using e-readers than reading actual books. So, being a book lover, these photos from the Underground New York Public Library make be happy.

Created by New York City based artist Ourit Ben-Haim, this on-going photo series features people reading on the NYC subway system, some on moving trains, others on the platforms waiting for the trains. “This library (photo series) freely lends out a reminder that we’re capable of traveling to great depths within ourselves and as a whole… I’m fascinated by how we apply ourselves to stories and discourse. In so doing, we shape who we understand ourselves to be.” says Ourit.

“Notes From Underground”, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

“Mars Trilogy: A Princess of Mars; The Gods of Mars; The Warlord of Mars”, by Edgar Rice Burroughs

“The Art of Choosing,” by Sheena Iyengar

“Aloft,” by Chang-rae Lee
