New York City based artist Vadis Turner takes colorful satin ribbons, vintage clothing and other assorted textiles to create these intriguing wall pieces. Bearing titles like, “Ripe Dirt / Fresh Burial,” “Primrose Path Engulfed in Smoke,” and “Red Candy and Black Mold,” this series explores the dichotomy and transition between beauty versus decay, and birth versus destruction.
From Turner’s artist statement, “Satin ribbons and flowers are fixed in a stilled state decay inspired by stages of fire, mold or submergence. The union engages, consumes and repurposes the materials. The mixed media paintings capture the dark beauty of change and loss.”
