“America on Americans (cross-stitched book”) by Lauren DiCioccioCross-stitch into found book. 17” x 11”, 2012
Do you miss the smell of paper while reading an ebook? Long to feel the edges of a stack of cards while digitally shuffling? This month Lauren DiCioccio is showing her latest fiber art works at the Jack Fischer Gallery in San Francisco. Taking common place items – like books, covers of old National Geographic magazines, a deck of playing cards - the San Francisco based artist embroiders colorful thread on top. Many of the objects in the show are becoming obsolete in our digital age. The artist’s time consuming process of embellishing them evokes strong feelings of nostalgia and loss.
Lauren DiCioccio‘s work will be showing at the Jack Fischer Gallery through September 8, 2012.
