Photos of the eyes of zoo animals by Oscar Ciutat

Hippopotamus

Did you ever wonder what animals in the zoo are thinking/feeling when we visit them? I do. Everytime, I go. Sadly, unless we are Dr. Doolittle, we will never know. Here are some poignant close-up images of the eyes of those intriguing creatures by photographer Oscar Ciutat. The Barcelona based photographer says, “It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. In 2008, I took a series of trips to the local zoo to photograph the eyes of animals held in captivity. I was intrigued by whether the lack of freedom would be apparent in the images.’
