Barcelona, Spain based artist Max Rippon (aka Ripo) currently has his first solo exhibition in the USA at the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. Featuring 25 new works, “Signs, Fines, & Cheap Wines” explores typography, calligraphy and urban signage. Ripo’s calligraphic stokes are amazingly detailed and elaborate as well as fluid and dynamic. Besides his work on paper, Ripo presents his latest assemblage art composed of old signs, broken mirrors and other salvaged materials. These are visually bold pieces that also poke the viewer with their sarcasm and humor.
The artist says, “I get the most satisfaction when a word fits perfectly to a situation, in expressing something personal that others can relate to.”
“Signs, Fines & Cheap Wines” will be showing at White Walls Gallery through September 1st, 2012.
