Recently, the winners of the 48th annual Veolia Environmental Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition were announced. 100 photos were selected from 48,000 entries originating from 98 countries, with top prize claimed by Paul Nicklen for his image of emperor penguins (see the 2nd image in this post).
My personal favorite is Cristobal Serrano‘s “Shoal of Life.” Taken during a long diving expedition around the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Mexico, this photograph captures the cormorant as it dives to catch dinner among a school of fish.
You can see all of the winners in person at the Natural History Museum in London through March 2013. A full gallery is also available online.
