Handmade masks

In honor of that yearly holiday when we dress up, terrorize our neighbors, and consume truckloads of cheap candy, here are 4 disguises worthy of any Halloween celebrant.

1. Animal headpieces by Gladys Paulus. The Dutch artist says, “Wool’s obvious associations are with warmth, protection and comfort. When the felt starts to take shape under my hands, emerging from the wool, I feel intense contentment. Felt is the most ancient form of textile (it dates back to Neolithic times) and I love that I am part of something bigger, an ancestral lineage.”

2. Fashion designer and artist Shin Murayama makes some pretty wild masks. See more here.

3. I wonder what treats would wind up in this felted cat’s paw? Kannis, in conjunction with her feline muse Kaffee, make these wool felt paws that look just like a real cat’s paw.

4. The Plague Doctor mask. This steampunk-inspired mask was made by Tom and Jill Banwel of Penn Valley, CA.
