“Litter Bug” sculptures by Mark Oliver

British artist Mark Oliver takes the term “Litter Bug” literally. Using broken, torn, and discarded items, Oliver concocts these whimsical insect-like creatures. There is a Reference Moth whose body and wings are cut from encyclopedia pages. The body of the Prophet Moth is formed from the cover of the Holy Bible. The Conductor Bug is built from copper conductors.

Oliver describes his constructions as: “A creature whose instinctual and physical qualities have adapted so uniquely to the modern urban environment that it has rendered itself, by nature of camouflage, virtually invisible in it’s normal habitat… When seen in isolation ‘Litter Bugs’ appear to be composed of everyday ‘found’ objects.

See more of these charming creatures on the Litter Bugs website.
