Wow, someone who still uses a Polariod! His name is Bastian Kalous, and he travels around the world capturing unusual outdoor vistas with expired film. Warped by the passage of time, the expired film and the photographer’s keen eye combine to create the mysterious ethereal quality in these images.
In an interview with Fuzion Magazine, the Freyung, Germany based photographer said, “The fascination of taking pictures of nature is the perfection of imperfect spots or places. The objects I mostly find are crooked, rough, dead… simply natural… The films are going their own way, bringing their own mood and creating an impressive scenery. It’s a symbiosis between nature and Polaroid. Like they are having a baby… Hopefully Mother Nature lasts longer than my expired Polaroid stock.”
Kalous is currently showing his work in a group exhibit dedicated to Polaroid photography, entitled “Anywhere But Here.” The show is at the Positive Negative Gallery in Vancouver, Canada. You can view the exhibit online here.
