A visualization of the words used in recent US presidential inauguration speeches

Finding the right words for an important talk can be tricky. How about the words for a presidential inauguration speech? In those orations, the words, phrases and sentences are analyzed, parsed and dissected by everyone from the media to historians to fifth-grade elementary school students.

Data and graphic designer Santiago Ortiz took the words from every inauguration speech since Richard Nixon’s first term (1969) speech to create this eye-popping visualization. Each color corresponds to a different speech. The larger the word, the more often it has been used.
