Bull Moose (from the Paranormal Postcard Series), 2002, Postcard and thread

American artist Nina Katchadourian literally connects the world of the mass produced with traditional needle work by embroidering red thread on postcards she collects from around the world. In the artist’s interventions, Goethe plays cat’s cradle, Giotto’s St. Francis blesses a flock of birds by casting red string at them, and a Bull Moose is given paranormal capabilities.

Katchadourian’s work is being shown as part of a group exhibit called Punch Card at the Catherine Clark Gallery in San Francisco. Punch Card will be showing through February 23, 2013.

A favorite work of mine is one where Katchadourian mends broken spider webs with red thread. You can read about it here.
